Boston Food Swap: June Recap

Our first Boston Food Swap was Saturday, June 25, and it was an afternoon filled with neighbors and friends excited to share their homemade creations! Even the Boston Globe showed up (look for an article in the near future).

People brought breads, spreads, herbs, beverages, dips, and desserts to swap. The atmosphere at Sprouts was laid back and neighborly, exactly what we hoped for! A motley crew of home brewers, backyard gardeners, vegans, and food enthusiasts chatted over samples, swapping stories and tips.

Thanks to everyone who came out! We hope to see you at the next one!

Check out more photos of the event here!

Want to get in on the fun? RSVP for our July event here!

Did you blog about this swap event? Contact us with a link to the post and we'll add it!

The Atlantic's Account of a Swap "Meat"

It's legitimate if you read it in the Atlantic, right?  This is a story of a food swap in Montana.  There were a lot of hand-killed swap items (?!?!?!?!).

I challenge readers of this post to find any Boston area hunters or fisherpeople you know and bring them and their haul to our first event!  MMMM.... seafood!

Inspiration and process tips from Minnesota

I thought I'd direct you to an article about the first Minneapolis food swap.  Not only will it get your creative juices flowing while you think of what great creations you will bring to the Boston event, but it will also give you some idea of how a swap works.

Video with a visual of a food swap

The folks at Cooking up a Story have not only written about the concept of a food swap but they have also included a video that shows you exactly what a swap might look like.
In Boston, we may change the "rules" a bit and I certainly encourage participants to think wide about what to make, but the video will give you the gist of how it will work.

It's Boston's Turn to Relish Our Neighbors' Best Relishes!

A few months ago, my socially informed writer friend (http://www.urbanmusewriter.com/ in case you were wondering) sent me a link to a New York Times Article about the food swapping concept that had recently hit Brooklyn.  Because The Urban Muse and I had met at a social food event many years ago, she knew that the idea would be right up my alley.

The idea is build better connections in the community by trading home grown, made, and foraged food with neighbors.  BOSSwappers is a place where we can flex our creative culinary muscle and meet other people who love food.

I am still working out the kinks about exactly how information will be shared and events will be announced.  In the meantime, follow the links to the Twitter Feed and Facebook Page and, between the three methods of communication, you'll be covered!

I can't wait to trade delicacies with all of you!
